Dear Friends,
We are thinking of you and your loved ones, as well as everyone impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak. The ramifications within our communities will, no doubt, last for years.
Like many nonprofits, the Prince William Sound Science Center is taking steps to help prevent the spread of the virus while doing everything we can to support the well-being and employment of our community, staff, beneficiaries, supporters, and volunteers. Here are a few of the steps we are taking:
- Our research programs, including in-progress field work, will continue for the benefit of our community and environment. This important work delivers critical information that helps us better understand our region in an era of rapid climate change.
- Tuesday Night Science Talks are cancelled for the remainder of the season; we hope to start them up again in the fall.
- Our school-year education programs will follow the closures led by the Cordova City School District and the Governor.
- Our Little Dippers nature explorers group has ceased meeting for the time being.
- We are shifting meetings to virtual environments and are using video and phone options to connect remotely. All staff are available to answer your questions via email or phone.
- We are allowing teleworking for our employees, the majority of which are now working offsite.
- Staff returning to Alaska or Cordova from other locations are asked to follow the 14-day quarantine rule by not coming to the office and avoiding areas in the community where people gather.
We know that our community and state are resilient, and we wish to be part of the solution during these challenging times. Together, we believe our region and state can emerge stronger than before, just as we always have.
Onward, and be well.
