This new film explores “The Blob,” a warm water anomaly that started in the Gulf of Alaska and later spread up and down the coast of western North America. The warmer temperatures had an impact on how quickly salmon were growing–a trend that was noticed by fishermen as smaller salmon were showing up in their nets.
“The Blob” has been in hibernation since late 2016. But, Dr. Rob Campbell’s continued research and monitoring of oceanographic conditions will lend to the big picture of what is happening over the long term. The more we learn about this place, the better we will get at managing its resources.
